5 Reasons You Should Drink Coffee

Coffee is perhaps one of the most unique beverages in the world. Distinctive varieties of coffee beans from all over the globe create an array of flavors and roasts with seemingly endless possibilities. It’s something that can be enjoyed early in the morning after first waking up, during the lunch-hour rush, and even after dinner. It can be served hot, cold, over ice, frozen, and the list goes on. While there doesn’t seem to be any end to the different ways coffee can be enjoyed, there is something much more important about this delicious drink. Research has shown time and time again that it has numerous health benefits. If you are interested in learning a bit more about some of the reasons you should drink a cup of coffee on a regular basis, here are 5 of the most important.

It Gives You a Quick Boost of Energy

Coffee contains the stimulant caffeine, which can be incredibly beneficial in the right amount. After drinking a cup of coffee, your central nervous system gets the quick boost of energy necessary to maintain alertness and focus when feeling tired. One study even showed that caffeine was linked to improvement times in “visuospatial reasoning, simple reaction time, choice reaction time, and incidental verbal memory.” 1

It Increases Your Metabolism

Did you know that drinking coffee can actually help you lose weight? For those trying to lose a few extra pounds before the holiday season, regular coffee consumption has been shown to increase metabolic rate and the number of calories you burn on a daily basis.

It Improves Your Mood

Believe it or not, coffee can actually help you fight depression. While there are a few variables involved, one study suggests that “coffee and caffeine consumption were significantly associated with decreased risk of depression.” 2 In fact, women benefit even more from drinking a regular cup of coffee. Another study concluded that “women who drank one or more cups of coffee a day had a 20% lower risk” of depression and developing mood disorders. 3

It Improves Your Athletic Performance

The reasons why you should drink coffee aren’t just limited to an ability to help you improve your mood or lower the risk of depression. Doing so can actually increase your athletic performance and enhance the quality of your workouts. By increasing activity in the central nervous system, caffeine can block certain pain signals your muscles send to your brain and allow you to exercise longer.

It’s A Great Way to Socialize

Did you know there are more than 30,000 coffee shops in the United States alone? It would be fair to say that nearly everywhere you go there is another option to find a place to enjoy a cup.. Younger generations have become particularly inclined to see coffee as not only a way to get the day started or improve their mood, but also as an important part of their social life. Surveys have shown that coffee is a symbol of a contemporary lifestyle and young consumers hold the social aspect that comes with it very high. A common social bond ultimately leads to a higher quality of life and better personal relationships.

The list of reasons you should enjoy a cup of coffee on a daily basis could go on for pages. However, the most important thing to keep in mind is that there is a reason this beverage has been enjoyed by so many around the world for such a long time. Coffee: A Healthy Outlier

In the 1950’s, Dr. Stewart Wolf completely changed the way the world views health. After a lecture at the University of Oklahoma, Wolf was invited out for a beer with a colleague who had an interesting story to tell. There was a town just outside of Bangor, Pennsylvania known as “Roseto.” A small group of Italian immigrants had settled there in the early 1900’s and remained almost entirely isolated from the outside world. They spoke nothing but Italian and even the architecture reflected their cultural roots. However, while the degree of mystery surrounding the community was compelling, there was something much more compelling to talk about. There wasn’t a single person in the entire town of Roseto who was dying from heart disease.1

Origins of Coffee Culture and History – An Ethiopian Legend

Coffee grown worldwide can trace its heritage back centuries to the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau. There, legend says the goat herder Kaldi first discovered the potential of these beloved beans.

The story goes that that Kaldi discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night.

Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread.

As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would bring these beans across the globe.,potential%20of%20these%20beloved%20beans.

Scipio Farms endorses Eco Delight Coffee!

Eco-Delight Coffee’s roots trace back six generations to Guillermo Moran’s ancestors in the town of Ahuachapan, El Salvador. As coffee growers supplying green beans, they were subject to typical swings in the prices of raw material in the commodities market. To help stabilize exposure to market swings, Guillermo’s grandfather decided to add value to their product by starting a small coffee roasting facility to supply the local market.
At the same time the Bendig family arrived in Costa Rica from Germany. Recognizing that all machinery for coffee milling and coffee roasting was being imported, they began Bendig Maquinaria to manufacture and service the coffee growing regions.
